about Ian Green garden designer

Good garden design should make everything feel easier.

Easier to use the space, easier to see what’s possible, easier to live the way you actually want to live.

But most people get there the hard way. They delay, guess, or hand it over to the builders. And then wonder why it doesn’t feel right.

Good garden design should make everything feel easier.

Easier to use the space, easier to see what’s possible, easier to live the way you actually want to live.

But most people get there the hard way. They delay, guess, or hand it over to the builders. And then wonder why it doesn’t feel right.

That’s where I come in...

I’m Ian, a garden and landscape designer with over 25 years’ experience helping people create outdoor spaces across the East Midlands and Nationwide that feel personal, functional, and long-lasting.

I’m not running a landscaping company, I don’t ‘build your patio’, I don’t sell features, packages or pre-set styles. What I offer is the most important part of your outdoor project - design, led by listening, rooted in real life, and shaped by what matters most to you.

Whether I’m working on a small family garden or a public site with layers of complexity, my approach is the same: thoughtful, collaborative, structured, and think-out-of-the-box creative.

Most clients come to me because they feel stuck.

They come because something isn’t working, they’ve outgrown their space. The house is done, but the garden’s still a patch of stress. Or the builders have “had a go” at it… and it shows.

What they need isn’t another quote. It’s a conversation.

Someone to help them step back, see clearly, and design a space that makes sense.

They want to make a difference, but they don’t know where to start or what to do for the best.

That’s where I come in.

I ask better questions.

I give you a clear, structured plan.

And I’ll help you make decisions with confidence, no pressure, no second-guessing.

And most importantly, I design gardens that feel personal, purposeful, and easy to live with, not just easy on the eye.

I originally trained as an RAF engineer, but I’ve always been drawn to design, the kind that solves problems and stands the test of time.

I studied horticulture and landscape design at De Montfort University and started the business from there, working under the name AGI Landscape & Garden Design for over two decades.

But over time, I realised the work that mattered most, and made the biggest difference was always the thinking, the planning, the problem-solving, the creativity that comes before the build.

This next chapter, under my own name, is simply a clearer reflection of what I actually do, and how I do it.

What it’s like to work together

Working with me is steady and structured. There’s no ego, no jargon, and no hidden agenda. You’ll always know where you stand.

You’ll get a clear process, honest advice, and someone who genuinely wants to help you get it right, whether that’s a small domestic garden, a commercial courtyard, or a layered, collaborative public space.

And once the design’s in place, I’ll support you through planning, contractor handover, and delivery, so nothing gets lost in translation and you finally get the space you’ve always dreamed of.

“Ian gave us the confidence to take the next step. He doesn’t push, he guides, and the garden we now have is more ‘us’ than we ever imagined.”

Want to know if we’re the right fit?

The best way to find out is a quick conversation.

Tell me what’s not working, I’ll help you see what’s possible, and if I’m not the right person for it, I’ll tell you that too.
